Ten Years Taller
This project examines an urban space in rapid transition, focusing on the curious juxtapositions that naturally– or not so naturally arise—and the redefined identity crafted through these changes.
It explores Toronto’s evolving character, from its humble, historic foundations of brick and stone to its sleek, futuristic developments dominated by glass and aluminum. These new constructions spread at an astonishing pace, encroaching on older neighborhoods and transforming the cityscape. The visual grandeur of these developments contrasts sharply with Toronto’s past, creating stark divides between old and new, and reimagining the city’s sense of place and livability.
While the identity of any city is always in flux, what sets Toronto apart is the unprecedented speed of its transformation. Some neighborhoods, and even the skyline itself, have become almost unrecognizable in just a decade—leaving both opportunity and tension in its wake.
